Since an overseer is entrusted with God’s work, he must be blameless — not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
Titus 1:7-9 NIV
As children of God, there are so many things that we have placed on us that we might not be ready to accept. Big shoes that we must fill that feels like God has a task to the wrong person. But God never does anything without knowing what his children can handle.
That’s why he always ask us to try & trust him.
As I was looking for what I wanted to blog about, I asked God want he wanted me to write. I felt lead to the “Verse of the Day” Titus 1:7-9. Reading the verses I begin to let God have his way with me. How to expand on the verses so that I could understand how to explain it myself.
Titus 1:7
See how it doesn’t say you must be perfect rather be blameless is to be innocent or faultless of wrongdoing
“–not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.”
Do you know why God uses people who use to do all these things? Many are working on not being overbearing and hot-tempered. Getting over their drug of choice. It’s because they are the testimony to people that are still doing these things.
It’s like when a person goes an AA meeting, and the meeting is led by an ex-drug/alcoholic. This person has the experience of where that person is now. The leader sharing their story of how they changed things around will be more profound to another user than words coming from a book worm who has read the effects of drugs/alcoholic but doesn’t have the experience of being a user or dealing with family who have used.
It’s the experience that God uses to show ‘look where they came from & see how if you trust & try me you too will be a living testimony.’
Titus 1:8
“Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy & discipline.”
When I was younger, I would always hear the saints saying ‘God is looking for a church without a spot, wrinkle or blemish.’ After God has made you a living testimony, you know that all things are possible through Christ. You no longer have to be a part of the world to be in the world.
The devil has enough mentors. Becoming a warrior for Christ is a lifestyle change that is not always easy. When you once used to struggling to get your OWN way. That’s why God always ask you to try him. Trying him doesn’t make you less independent.
It makes you stronger, wiser to know that your father is working on your behalf. He only requires you to be his mentor for his kingdom. To give your all & try it his way. Which is better than failing on your own.
Titus 1:9
“He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught so that he can encouraged others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.”
Don’t Kill the messenger. Remember that they were once wer like you.
When I was in my 20’s & I was doing ‘ME’ Saturdays nights I was party & Sundays mornings I was in church. After a night of partying on Saturday. I got into the prayer line on Sunday morning. The Lord had enough of me doing ‘ME.’ One of the sisters straight told me that I had a choice. That I couldn’t serve two masters.
At first, I was like what is she talking about, what does that mean? But I knew what it meant. I was raised in the church, so I knew better. I couldn’t have one foot in church & the other one with the devil. Thinking the Lord was going to keep protecting me from the same devil I was partying with. God knew I wasn’t perfect.
He was aware that I was running, but God had placed a calling on my life that I couldn’t out run. He knew my testimony would be use to draw in who he wanted to save.
God is Better than a Storefront Church
As I went back to read the whole chapter of Titus 1. My mind was blown away. The verses that I have expanded on in my blog from the chapter gives a comfort to what God what’s his people to hear.
Reading the whole chapter I began to say to myself. “God this is some powerful stuff. Some of this is harsh.” I started thinking how I wanted to say the word. Stopping myself. What I relies is not about what I want to speak about. It’s what God gave me to expand on. His words will settle on the hearts they were intended to sit on.
So many people want to be call but want to water down God. That’s like going to a place ordering a Pepsi and you can tell from that first sip that something is not right. Then you take another sip; your taste buds confirm your thoughts. You just paid for the water down version.
When you have the real Pepsi you want it frizz & tickle down your throat. That confirms its authenticity yea, so you keep drinking it. The sweetness makes you forget that earlier discomfort.
So many water down Saints has used God as their storefront leaving a bad taste in people’s mouths that just want the truth and to become whole with God. They’re not looking for your version of what God is. The want to experience the real deal.
God’s word is here to help. It’s a guide to order, debt-free, healing and correction. The word brings the comfort to the spirit as well as aligns it back to God’s will. So you have to deicide will you be a warrior for God the way he intended you to be or will you be a water down warrior serving the fake Pepsi?
