In the spirit of #HBCUFriday I want to share how being a business student helped developed the entrepreneurship soul in me.
At a young age I seen my mother and my father work together in their catering / event planning business, my mother’s African clothing shop and my father’s Recycling business.
At that time I didn’t know that my parents were what you called today Self-employed entrepreneurs. I just knew that they were hard working and they excellence at taking care my siblings and me.
As I found myself with the worker spirit, working different jobs, under different management styles I began to discover that I too had a talent for business. Thus choosing NCAT as the college that would further me in my educational goals and desire.

In my search,I stated in an early blog HBCU-MY Different World how important it was for me to be surrounding by other liked minded individuals that either looked like me or wanted the chance to have the same things in life.
An HBCU creates a better opportunity for its students, staff and Alumni with grooming and providing these opportunities to reach for whatever it is your wanting to become.
While searching for a college for me. I found myself in chat rooms and anything related to HBCU’s for a college that would match my drive, and ambitions. One day during my search an A&T Alumni replied to my request for information for HBCU with great accounting programs. I followed up on her suggested and never looked back.
Funny how looking through a website and quick response to emails and payments can help make a decision to move across the country for a dream to become my own boss and a college that oozed with Pride.

During my first term at A&T I was set on my business courses learning all sorts of things and gaining knowledge from the corporate world and entrepreneurs alumni who had come back to Craig: School of Business of A&T. Helping to guide us new, fresh and eager students on how to make our own mark in the business world with our values, ideas, and talents.
During those sessions, is where I heard the term entrepreneurship. My heart felt like it skipped a few beats instantly aware of an opportunity to be me. Vowing to become an entrepreneur, not knowing what I would do yet was okay. I just knew it was going to happen.
Meeting with those executives of their own business and brand, feeling hope that I will one day be in their place. That I could become and do anything I set my mind too.
Every chance that I encountered a business owner I gushed with proud that they had the courage to step out on faith to support their dream of becoming a boss. I think that’s why every chance I get I love supporting people that have taken the risk and bet on themselves.

Entrepreneurship is HBCU, it’s the students sitting in the student union planning business plans or up late creating a dream and bonding with roommates that have become business partners.
It’s college club Nxtlevel promoters that have become a leading travel beacon, and graphic photographer production company that was established in off-campus housing Jamal Featherstone. It’s seeing the college girl braiding squad or the homeboy in the dorm with the clippers. It’s the Triple Whammy Sauces at the tailgates during the homecoming football games.
