How to Submit to God

The Lord extends the same invitation: “I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20).

In 2009, I finally gave my life back over to God. I was 25 years old. For years God told me to trust him. Try him. Have faith in him. I thought that I knew best for myself. I wanted to have fun. To me God wasn’t fun, he was fire and brim stone. I wanted no parts of that lifestyle.submit2god-www-indigometellus-com

After a night where the LAPD was involved, I was ready to do whatever it was that God wanted me to do. Over a period of 3 months, my life changed for the better, due to me submitting myself to God’s will for my life.

Elder Neal A. Maxwell of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles made the following statement about this most significant decision:

“The submission of one’s will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God’s altar. It is a hard doctrine, but it is true. The many other things we give to God, however nice that may be of us, are actually things He has already given us, and He has loaned them to us. But when we begin to submit ourselves by letting our wills be swallowed up in God’s will, then we are really giving something to Him” (“Insights from My Life,” Ensign, Aug. 2000, 9).

How I submitted to God’s will? I tried him. I use these key things to submit to God:

I build my FAITH in him and his word.

I TRUSTED that his plan for my life was better than the plan I had for myself.

I BELIEVED that his words would not return void until to me by speaking his words back to him.

I SOUGHT him out in prayer and built a relationship with him which helped me to give total control of myself back to him.

As Elder Maxwell observed, submission to the Lord is hard doctrine. It requires a rededication to God’s will at the start of each day and sometimes every hour or even from moment to moment.

As I became willing to submit, I found that my TRUST, FAITH, BELIEF, and SEEKING growing in my continued submission to God which reduced my anxieties, fears, worries and doubts about my future. Things which I could not control.

I decided to try God because he never let me down or disappointed me. He never lied to me. God has always did what was best for me. God has always given me the support that I felt I needed and deserved. Turning my will and life over to His care, became effortless once I turned to God rather than run from him.

Submitting to God’s will became a verbal renewal between God and myself that let God know he can have his will in my life.  Which brought strength and confidence in me via God’s  goodness, power, and love he has shown me by the pouring of his favor in everything that I do for his purpose.

In closing, I want to dare you to Try God by submitting yourself to his will. If you need, help drop me a line in my email. Or just get on your needs and tell God that you’re giving him all of you, and he will take it from there.

” For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
